Root Canal

Root canal treatment is typically completed in 2-3 visits. After these visits, it is common to experience some tenderness when biting down on the tooth. This tenderness may take up to a week to subside. We recommend that patients chew on the opposite side of the root canal to avoid discomfort and to avoid fracturing the tooth as the tooth is temporarily weakened until the root canal is completed.

In some cases, you may feel that the tooth that is having root canal treatment feels shorter/lower than it was before. In some cases, it is necessary to lower the tooth out of your bite to reduce the risk of the tooth fracturing.

If the temporary filling on the root canal becomes loose or dislodges, do not panic. Contact the dental clinic within operating hours. We will need to make an appointment to put a new temporary filling on. Please contact the clinic even if the next appointment for the next stage of the root canal is only a few days away as we can only begin on the next stage of the treatment if the temporary filling is intact on the day of the appointment.
